FAQs:
Is a cappella a huge commitment?
A Minor practices twice a week for three hours each, in addition to both on- and off-campus gigs; and like any other performing group, passion and commitment are the keys to success. However, that's not to say that you won't have time for anything outside of a cappella--in fact, most of our members are involved in many extracurricular clubs and activities outside of A Minor!
Is it hard to get in?
Since we are usually comprised of about 14 people, A Minor is a highly competitive group. However, we encourage all students to try out, whether you've been a member of choir since elementary school or you only sing in the shower! We look for different things every semester, so you never know--you might be just what we're looking for!
Can I audition for more than one group?
Yes! There are ten a cappella groups on campus that make up the UConn A Cappella Association. Aside from A Minor, the co-ed groups include Extreme Measures, Husky Hungama, Notes Over Storrs, and the Rolling Tones. There are two all-male a cappella groups: A Completely Different Note and Conn-Men; and three all-female a cappella groups: the Chordials, Drop the Bass, and Rubyfruit. We encourage students to audition for multiple groups and most people do; however, you will ultimately only be able to select one group to be in, should you receive a callback from one or more groups!
Where do I sign up to audition?
The sign up sheet will be outside our audition room throughout auditions, so you can stop by to sign up for an audition slot at your convenience! If you'd like to hear more about our auditions, come to the Music Building Atrium on Sunday, January 28 at 6PM to learn more and sign up as soon as we post the sheet!
